The State of Goa History of the Country 1. On December 19, 1961 State of Goa officially ceded to India after 400 years of Portuguese rule. Portugal refused to negotiate with India on the transfer of Indian enclaves and so the Indian Army commenced Operation Vijay. This resulted in the annexation of Goa and two other former Portugal states, Damon and Diu. Then, all three became part of India. 2. On October 10, 1962 the Sino-Indian war started. This was a dispute over the boundaries between China and India. Ten days later Chinese troops invade Kashmir and captured Aksai Chin.

History of the Country 3. On December 3, 1971 to December 16, 1971 was the Indo- Pakistani War. This lasted only 13 days and was one of the shortest wars in history. It started when Pakistan launched a pre-emptive strike on eleven airfields in north-western India. The war officially came to an end when the Pakistani Armed Forces signed the Instrument of Surrender and East Pakistan seceded to become Bangladesh.

Folk Tale Once upon a time there were two travelers, both very hot. To seek relief they took refuge under a tree. They soon felt cool and refreshed. “What sort of tree is this? Does it produce edible fruits?” asked one of the men to the other. “It’s a plain tree,” said his companion. “Don’t waste your time looking for fruits. It produces no edible fruit and doesn’t supply good wood either. It’s one of the most useless trees around.” “How can you say that when you’re enjoying my shade at this very moment?” snapped the tree. The moral of this story is… Sometimes, a person’s worst critics are those who have benefited him the most.
