Si clauses with present tense First conditional

Si clauses Spanish si clauses are also known as conditionals or conditional sentences. The si clause is predicted while the independent clauses is the result.

Si clauses There are 3 different kinds of si clauses: First conditional – likely situations – present + present, future, and commands Second conditional – unlikely situations– currently contrary – imperfect subjunctive + conditional Third conditional – impossible situations – pluperfect subjunctive + pluperfect subjunctive or conditional

Si clauses – first conditional Si present + present Used for things that happen (regularly) when conditions are met. Si could be replaced by cuando without or little difference in meaning.

First conditional – si present + present Examples If it rains, we don’t practice. We play if it is nice. When it rains, we don’t practice. We play when it is nice.

Si clauses si present + present If it rains, we don’t practice. Si llueve, no practicamos. We play if it is nice. Nosotros jugamos si hace buen tiempo. When it rains, we don’t practice. Cuando llueve, no practicamos. We play when it is nice. Jugamos cuando hace buen tiempo.

2. Si present + future used for events that will occur (in the future) if the condition is met (in the present).

Si present + future Examples If I have time, I will wash the dishes. Si yo tengo tiempo, lavaré los platos. I will drive home if you call mom. Yo manejaré a casa, si llamas a mamá.

Si clauses– si present + commands used to give an order dependent on conditions being met now (present times).

Si clause – si present + command Examples If you can, call today. Si puedes, llama hoy. Come early if you don’t work. Ven temprano si no trabajas.
