Perspective Overview Provides resources specific to student needs through Learning Locator service Database of ~10,000 supplemental resources All resources are aligned to Minnesota Academic Standards Resources used for enrichment, remediation, and classroom learning Teacher-created assignment sheet functionality, online tools, and professional development resources Teacher-created tests with Test Builder Connects assessment to classroom instruction

Access to Perspective Open access to Family site Pass Phrase: MN_edu for educators Educator site also allows secure login Both the Family and Educator site links are available on the PearsonAccess Home page.

Student & Family Site There are different options for entering the student and family site based on the information provided to parents and students. Access the student and family site at OR from the PearsonAccess Home page at Parents and students enter an assignment ID or a Learning Locator code into the box below “Please enter Pass Phrase/Assignment ID/Learning Locator” and select the Go! button. This will take a user directly to the content selected by the teacher or generated by the Learning Locator.

Student & Family Site Learning Resources There are four ways to access the learning resources: 1.Browse the resource library (without a Learning Locator) 2.Via a Learning Locator code Learning Locator rosters were posted to PearsonAccess in September, Learning Locators are provided when OLPA and MCA assessment results are reported. The Learning Locator code leads directly to appropriate instructional resources linked to individual online content. 3.Via a teacher-made assignment sheet 4.Accessing Parent Resources

Viewing Resources Viewing Learning Resources Without a Learning Locator 1.On the Perspective home page, select a Grade icon under the Math, Reading, or Science sections.

Select Search to retrieve the list of learning resources. 5. A third option is to use the Advanced Search feature to narrow your selection by strand, resource type, and resource format. Then select Search to retrieve a list of learning resources.

Accessing the Educator Site Creating an Account Creating an account gives educators the flexibility to save assignments, edit and also share assignments with students and colleagues. NOTE: This account is specific to the Perspective website and is not a user account for other Pearson systems that will be used.

Accessing the Educator Site Creating an Account 2. A dialog box will pop up asking for your address, the Pass Phrase, and a Password. Use “mn_edu” as your Pass Phrase and create a Password. After you have entered your information, select Create Account. 3. Select Proceed to Login.

Assignment Sheets Educators can create and share assignment sheets with students. Students use a shared assignment code to access the learning resources.

Creating Assignment Sheets 1.Log in to Perspective. Users who log in with a previously created account have the ability to access previously created assignment sheets, save, edit, and share work. 2.On the Learning Resources home page, select a Grade icon under the Math, Reading, or Science sections.

Creating Assignment Sheets Users may select several resources from various strands and even subjects. To remove a resource from selection, select the checkbox again to remove the checkmark. Alternately, use the Grade/Subject drop-down menu to change your grade and/or subject. Then select Search to retrieve the list of learning resources. A third option is to use the Advanced Search feature to narrow your selection by strand, resource type, and resource format. Then select Search to retrieve a list of learning resources.

Creating Assignment Sheets 4. Once all desired resources are selected, scroll up to view the right-hand column of the page: Your Assignment Sheet. Select the Save Assignment Sheet icon.

Creating Assignment Sheets 5. On the Save and Print Assignment Sheet screen, complete the Heading for Assignment Sheet and Note to Students (optional) fields.

Creating Assignment Sheets 6. Scrolling on this screen gives users the option to create a PDF directly for the Assignment Sheet.

Creating Assignment Sheets 7. Scroll down for the option to the Assignment Sheet to students. Enter one or more student address(es) in the to Send Assignment Sheet field. communications can be sent at the time the Assignment Sheet is created or at a later time, assuming the user logged in with his or her personal account.

Creating Assignment Sheets 8. Scroll to the bottom and select the Save Assignment Sheet button. Your screen will refresh and the message “Assignment Sheet saved successfully” will appear above the Save Assignment Sheet button. NOTE: An will be sent to the student with a URL and an Assignment Sheet ID that he or she can use to access the Assignment Sheet. The user who created the assignment will also receive a confirmation for reference.

Retrieving and Using Existing Assignment Sheets 1.After logging in, enter the Assignment Sheet ID in the Assignment Sheet/Learning Locator Code box on the Educator home page. This may be an Assignment Sheet the user has created or one that have been shared.

Retrieving and Using Existing Assignment Sheets 2. Select the Go! button. The Learning Resource page will display a list of the learning resources and “Your Assignment Sheet [Name].”

In the Your Assignment Sheet [Name] box, you may view, add or remove learning resources from this assignment sheet. 5.To resave the assignment sheet, select the Save button. If this is an assignment sheet you created, you will be prompted to “Update Assignment Sheet.” If this is an assignment sheet shared with you, you will be prompted to “Save Assignment Sheet,” which will create your own version of this assignment sheet. NOTE: At this time there is no scoring or tracking of student work for Assignment Sheets created in Perspective.

Create Test using Test Builder 5. Once all desired items are selected, scroll up to view the right-hand column of the page to select the Save Test button. Select the red “X” to remove the item from the test. Select and drag the Up/Down arrow to rearrange the order of the items.

Create Tests using Test Builder 6.On the Test Details screen, provide a Title for the test and Note to Students (optional). Select Save Test to save your test on the Perspective server. 7.You may also select the Print Test hyperlink to download a PDF version of your test with the questions and an answer key.

Create Test using Test Builder 8. Once the test has been saved successfully, your test will appear in the My Tests screen. Users are able to edit, share, copy, print, or delete tests they have created. 9. Tests that other teachers share with you can be accessed by selecting Shared Tests.

What is Learning Locator? Learning Locator Code encapsulates student performance and is keyed to student score profile Code “unlocks” the Perspective learning resource content Provides opportunities for differentiated instruction based on assessment performance One code for each subject

Learning Locator Process Assessments and standards defined – Strand level performance levels determined – Learning Locators pre-calculated Resources aligned to standards by Pearson content specialists Students take assessment – Assessments scored – Learning Locators are applied – Learning Locator codes presented in On-Demand, PearsonAccess rosters and Individual Student Reports (ISRs). Students enter code into Perspective Students receive materials aligned to their assessment performance

Learning Locator in PearsonAccess Available for MCA and OLPA assessments Learning Locators for OLPA and 2015 MCA assessments are available via On-Demand Reports Learning Locators for 2014 MCA assessments are available via Published Reports

Learning Locator in PearsonAccess Learning Locators are available via On-Demand Reports in the Session List Report and Student Detail Report Select the student’s name and the STUDENT DETAIL REPORT will open in a new window with the Learning Locator noted.

Learning Locator in PearsonAccess Learning Locators have also been published to PearsonAccess based on the 2014 MCA assessment results. To access 2014 MCA-based Learning Locators, select Published Reports, change your administration to the Minnesota Spring 2014 Reporting administration.

Learning Locator and Resources Student Learning Locator codes are available via On-Demand Reports and ISRs. Districts may provide to Learning Locators to parents. There will be a separate code for Mathematics, Reading, and Science in selected grades.

Learning Locator and Resources 1.On the Perspective home page, enter a student’s individual Learning Locator into the box labeled Pass Phrase/Assignment ID/Learning Locator. 2.Select a strand on the left side of the page by clicking on the desired strand name. Users may sort the list of resources by Type or Format by selecting one of the column headings.

Learning Locator and Resources 3. Select any resource under the Name (ID) column to see the actual resource. Each learning resource will display in a new browser window or tab.
