Insulin Insulin is a hormone in the body that makes most of the body's cells adsorb glucose from the blood not enough insulin can cause abnormally high blood sugar levels aka Diabetes.. People who have severe diabetes have to inject insulin. My dad has diabetes and he injects insulin before meals.

Benefits and Costs Benefits. Diabetics enjoy a higher quality of life. The insulin is a better treatment than the pills. Insulin is a easy treatment. Costs Insulin is fully funded by the government. Have to inject before every meal. Have to carry a case around all day.

SB The pancreas cells make insulin for the body. Insulin is needed to get glucose out of blood and into cells for energy. Diabetic people don't have pancreas cells that make insulin for them, so then they can get insulin from an animal or have someone make human insulin by using human DNA. First they put DNA coding for insulin into bacteria DNA, next they feed the bacteria cells to make insulin from special DNA, then they remove the insulin and give it to a diabetic person. How They Make Insulin Summary

The gene the genetic engineers want may be in a human chromosome. It might be the gene for insulin production. They use an enzyme to cut the insulin gene out of the chromosome. Plasmids are then removed from bacterial cells The plasmids are cut open with an enzyme A human insulin gene is inserted into each plasmid The genetic engineers encourage the bacteria to accept the genetically modified plasmids Bacteria with the insulin gene are then multiplied Each bacterium will produce a small volume of insulin By culturing the genetically engineered bacteria limitless supplies of insulin may be produced. How To Make Insulin

The Advantages Easy to use Not so many pills Fully subsidised by the government Can be made in large lots Readily avaiable The Disadvantages Has to be kept cool Doesn’t travel well Has to be injected before every meal Can cause reactions in humans
