Comparing the Features of Religions of the Reformation

Anabaptist- Origins Founded in Zurich, Switzerland in 1525 Was more radical than traditional Catholicism Quickly spread through Europe, especially among lower classes

Anabaptist- Sin and Salvation Secular world was filled with sin Baptism washed away original sin that all were born with After baptism you must avoid sin

Anabaptist- Source of Authority New Testament Bible Priests weren't needed as members could read Bible for themselves

Anabaptist- Rituals Met in homes rather than churches Shunned other religions No religious statues

Anabaptist- Community Life Not a part of “other” society Lived a simple life, basic technology Non violent

Catholicism- Origins Spread of Protestant reformation led to Catholic reformation Began in 1534 by Pope Paul III Aimed to rid the church of corruption and allow church members to lead simple lives
