4 Parts of a Mystery 1. Suspense: a story quality that produces tension in the reader 2. Cliffhanger: a story device that is used to leave a reader “hanging’ at the end of a section (something unresolved) 3. Suspect: someone suspected of committing a crime 4. Clues: pieces of information given to solve a mystery

5 Mystery Words to Know: 1. Motive: cause of a person’s actions 2. Psychic: a person sensitive to supernatural forces 3. Chronological: order of events in which they occur 4. Sleuth: detective 5. Summons: an order to appear in court or at a certain place 6. Skeptic: person who is critical or doubtful
