Hyacinth Macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) By: Siddharth Samal

 Hyacinth macaws are found in savannah grasslands  Dry thorn forests called “caatingas” are the common areas where hyacinth macaws are found in Brazil, Boliva, and Paraguay. Habitat/Niche Bolivia Brazil Paraguay

 Clutches of 2 eggs are commonly laid my hyacinth macaws  Usually one survives up to maturity, incubation lasts 1 month  Fledging occurs when young macaws are 3 months old Reproduction and Gestation

Hyacinth macaws are herbivores because they eat:  Plants  Nuts  Native palms (acuri palms bocaiuva palms) Diet Acuri Bocaiuva

Pythons Jaguars Tigers Hyacinth macaws Orchids Seeds Banana Trees Predator/Prey Relationships

Hyacinth macaws are primary consumers because they only eat nuts, native palms, leaves, grass and other varieties of plants. They are not producers. Consumer/Producer Macaw fits here

The hyacinth macaw is endangered.  Humans have been using hyacinth macaws for illegal pet trade - In 1980 about 10,000 hyacinth macaws had been removed from the wild.  They are losing their habitats due to deforestation. Threats/Human Interactions

Abiotic Factors: Sunlight, temperature, oxygen, soil, water Biotic Factors: Palm trees, grass, variety of other plants Biotic/Abiotic Factors

Some limiting factors for hyacinth macaws are food, water, space for habitats, and different weather conditions. Hyacinth macaws can make habitats in rare places which don’t have a lot of food or water. Limiting Factors

There are about 6,500 hyacinth macaws but most of them are in the Pantanal, a basin type body of water in Bolivia. Now they are in danger of disappearing forever. Numbers at Present

 Hyacinth macaws are the longest parrot in the world (100 cm).  Their life span is up to 60 years or longer.  They have the most powerful beak of all birds, can even crack coconuts.  Hyacinth macaws are the most noisiest birds  They are very gentle even with a big size Interesting Facts

Hyacinth Macaws have feathers and hollow bones to help them fly, very strong beaks to break hard food, and claws and feet that help macaws grip onto branches. Adaptations

Butterfly Species? The hyacinth macaw is a butterfly species because it plays a major role in a food web. If hyacinth macaws are gone, then pythons, jaguars, and tigers which are predators of hyacinth macaws will eventually disappear. Many seeds won’t be dispersed and be wasted because of the disappearance of hyacinth macaws. IfThen
