November 19, 2014  Class starter – Define the word “chivalry“ and give an example of chivalrous behavior in Chaucer’s time(use your phone if you need to). Is chivalry alive in any way today? Give a modern example.  Read from “The Prologue,” lines 455 – 486 (the Wife of Bath) and characterize her on the same page you wrote your notes yesterday:  How do her clothes reveal her status?  She’s had five husbands, for various reasons not mentioned here. How might this reveal or affect, her character?  Would you say she is a typical woman for the time period? Why or why not?

November 19, 2014  Read from “The Prologue,” lines 665 – 710 (the Pardoner) and characterize him on the same page you wrote your notes yesterday:  Include physical description, both his appearance and his voice.  Based on context clues, what do you think a Pardoner does for a living?  Is there any satire (in the form of exaggeration or ridicule) or irony used?  What is implied about his character?

November 19, 2014  Read from “The Prologue,” lines 743 – 853 (the end of the Prologue) and summarize the rules of the contest on the same page you wrote your notes yesterday.  Read “The Pardoner’s Tale.” p Answer #s1 – 7, p. 123 in complete sentences.
