Assessing Alexander’s Youth Aim: to assess the significance and interpretation of Alexander’s youth according to Plutarch. Briefly outline 2 important events from Alexander’s youth. [5 marks]

Peer Assessment Use Green pen to peer assess with the person next to you. Levels/ Marks L5- 5 marks (thorough detail) L4- 4 marks (Sound detail) L3- 3 Marks (some detail) L1/ Marks (Limited/ No detail) Content Birth- myth of the serpent, Lion seal and burning temple of Artemis. Bucephalas- Wild horse, scared of it’s own shadow, broken in by Alexander in front of the royal court. Philip’s Marriage- Argument between Philip & Alexander, exile and return.

Importance and Interpretation Good news! (ish) The information we have on Alexander’s youth comes from Plutarch. Plutarch was a PHILOSOPHER who was primarily concerned with CHARACTER rather than History.
