Admission requirements vary by institution. May use the same criteria as UC/CSU but more Math & Science may be required. Students should check with individual campuses to determine admission requirements, testing requirements & deadlines. Naviance is a great tool for this type of research!!!!

BIG issues for Class of 2017 Students typically take admissions tests during Spring semester of Junior year Options:  “OLD PSAT” in October & “OLD SAT” Only available through February  “NEW SAT” – Begins in March  ACT – No changes

 ACT questions tend to be more straightforward  On the SAT questions are multi-step. You may need to spend time figuring out what the question is asking you  The SAT is broken up into more sections  SAT moves back and forth between content area  ACT you tackle each content area in one big chunk  The ACT is more of a “big picture” exam  Colleges tend to look at score of each section of SAT  Colleges tend to look at overall composite score of ACT

 The SAT has a stronger emphasis on vocabulary  The ACT has a Science section, the SAT doesn’t  Not specific Science questions, rather interpreting data and reasoning  The ACT tests more advanced Math concepts  Tests basic Arithmetic, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry & some a bit of Trigonometry  Not necessarily harder though since questions tend to be easier to understand

SAT/ACT Test Scores  Check final testing dates for EACH campus. Registration is usually several weeks before test date.  Send Test scores directly from College Board &/or ACT to colleges. MHS does NOT send these scores.  If student is possible D1 or D2 athlete- also send to NCAA (#9999).

 If you are interested in participating in Athletics at a Division 1 or 2 college, you must meet NCAA requirements.  Students must meet specific course, GPA & SAT/ACT score requirements.  Students may need to make up F grades (required) & D grades to improve GPA & meet requirements.  Summer program and courses must be NCAA approved.  Realize this process is not predictable.

 If you are interested in participating in Athletics at a NAIA college you must also meet eligibility criteria.  NAIA schools are typically smaller, private campuses with a focus on student-athletes.

 No specific course requirements must be met prior to entrance. Any student may enroll at a community college.  Academic Options:  Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) to the CSU System  Transfer to a 4-year Institution  Associate Degree  Certificate of Completion  Proficiency Award
