NYC Public Schools The high school admissions process is centered on two principles: Equity Choice This year, over 84% matched to one of their top 5 choices. Eligibility Applicant must be a current New York City resident Applicant must be a current 8 th grader or first time 9 th grader All New York City public school 8 th graders must submit an application Private and parochial school 8 th graders should submit an application if they plan on attending a NYC Public High School.

How do students register for the SHSAT and LaGuardia Auditions? In September, register through the school guidance counselor Guidance Counselors will distribute test and/or audition ticket to students prior to the scheduled test and/or audition date Families should check the ticket for the following: Correct student info (name, ID #, grade) Correct test date and location Testing accommodations (if applicable) Complete the grid on the test ticket indicating student preferences for Specialized High Schools Students must bring the test and/or audition ticket with them
On the scheduled test date, students list the Specialized Testing High Schools in priority order on the test answer sheet. These choices are final. After all tests are scored, students’ test scores are placed in order from the highest score to the lowest score.
