Praying the Scriptures Karen Bisset October 11, 2009
Do we agree? All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV The NIV says ‘all scripture is God-breathed’
Praying God’s Word is an approach to prayer Is not the only way to pray Incorporating Scripture into your prayers will result in powerful and more effective prayers By praying scripture, we pray God’s Will Don’t be fooled – it’s not ‘name it and claim it’ or a ‘way to get your way’ – God is sovereign
God’s Word is Powerful!
Our Weapon The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God Ephesians 6:17 (b)
Another Advantage Learn scripture through your prayers
Can’t I just think about it? Thoughts vs The Spoken Word Of course we should meditate upon the Word but to activate it, you must speak it - Jesus did
How do I get started?
Let’s try it! Let’s pray for the pastor! Father, we pray in accordance with your Word that you will keep Stuart in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You. We pray that Jesus himself is Stuart’s peace. We pray that You Jesus have left Your peace with Stuart and we pray that his heart will not be troubled, neither will he be afraid. And, Lord, we pray that Stuart will be anxious for nothing, but in everything, will let his requests be made known to You God, and Your peace which surpasses all understanding, will guard his heart and mind through Christ Jesus. Thank you Lord…Amen
New King James Version you will keep Stuart in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You (Isaiah 26:3) We pray that Jesus himself is Stuart’s peace. (Ephesians 2:14) have left Your peace with Stuart and we pray that his heart will not be troubled, neither will he be afraid. (John 14:27) will be anxious for nothing, but in everything, will let his requests be made known to You God, and Your peace which surpasses all understanding, will guard his heart and mind through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Live in Victory!
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15 (NIV)
