For Communication  Why do we learn English

Body language  In a normal conversation between two persons, less than 7% of the social meanings is actually transmitted by words.  At least 93% of it is conveyed through the body. (non- verbal channel). --- by Edward T. Hall, a social anthropologist

What is body language?  It’s the way you stand and sit and walk.  It’s your gestures and the expression on your face and in your eyes.  It’s your whole appearance that sends messages.

Body distance  North Americans : they tend to feel most comfortable at about 21 inches apart. North Americans Chinese  Chinese: The body distance between Chinese is closer than that between Americans.

Cultural importance  In America, it means ok or great.  In Japan, it means money.  In France, it means zero or worthless  In Tunisia, it means I will kill you.  In Turkey, Brazil, Greece, and Malta, it has an obscene meaning.
