W5 GRAVITY
WEEK 5 3/7WHOT Q Here is some basic info you will need going forward. The Earth has gravity. You have gravity. Choose the statement statements you agree with most and copy it down. Then Write why you chose that statement. 1.The gravity of Earth is pulling on you harder than you are pulling on it. 2.The Earth and your gravity are pulling on each other equally. 3.The Earth’s gravity is pulling on you only.
GRADE WHOTS Out of 12 Thursday: To earn the points they must have put something down that they did outside of class to earn the points Ex. Last night I used the study guide to go over fusion and fission questions.
2/29Week 4 WHOT Q ^neat. You look up at a star through a spectroscope. Why is your spectrum more red than it should be and what does this mean?
ITS MARCH!!!3/1 WHOT Week 4 Describe the trend of stars, when regarding the main sequence. White Dwarf stars are very hot, between 5000, and degrees! Why aren’t they very bright?
3/2WHOT Q Compare and contrast Fusion and Fission How are they similar? How are they different?
3/3 WHOT What did you do to prepare for the test?
WHAT-IS-GRAVITY/EN/ Look at a visual of what gravity is.
GRAVITY ARTICLE AND 2 COLUMN NOTES
WHAT IS GRAVITY? What are the 3 variables of gravity? Mass of the massive object, mass of the smaller object, and separation (distance) of the two objects.
What does Newton’s Law state? What is weight? F=(Gxm1xm2)/r How are gravational forces proportional? How is gravity inversely proportional to r (distance)
HOLD ON TO YOUR STUFF 3/8 WARMUP What is a manipulated variable What is a responding variable Edwin want to see if music had an effect on plant growth. He played different artists to each plant as they grew. Everyday Edwin recorded the plant’s height. Identify the each variable in this experiment.
SET UP GRAPHS Reminder for computer lab: You do not want a seating chart for tomorrow. No food or drink (even water) No tom foolery.
COMPUTER LAB
3/9 WHOT What are the 3 variables you can use to change the force of gravity between 2 objects? Draw force arrows between both sets of objects. A B A B
COMPUTER LAB DAY 2
3/10 WHOT Why is it that we feel less FORCE of gravity (weigh less) on the moon? If you climbed to the top of Mt. Rainier, do you think you would weigh less than you do right now? Explain Think of what would change as you climbed Mt Rainier. Have homework out!!!
HOW GRAVITY WORKS =MTY1Kje0yLg
PAPER, BOOK, AND A WHITE BOARD
FORCE DIAGRAMS You will see this again…
WHAT FALLS FASTER? A FEATHER OR A BOWLING BALL? Gravity is pulling everything down with different forces, but due to the balance of inertia, everything falls at the same rate.
QUESTIONS DUE TOMORROW

CALCULATE THE UNIVERSAL GRAVITATIONAL CONSTANT 9)Multiply Mass 1 ( m 1 ), Mass 2 ( m 2 ) and divide by distance squared ( r 2 ). Then divide the Force of gravity ( F g ) by your calculated number. This will give you the universal gravitational constant. The units for this value is (N m 2 )/kg 2.
