Metric Measurement Vocabulary Today, we will be previewing the metric measurement vocabulary you will be learning in science with Mrs. Monaghan. You will be quizzed on these terms as well as lab safety next week.
matter: anything in the universe that takes up space
length: how long something is
metric ruler: instrument used to measure length
meter: metric unit of measurement for length
mass: the amount of matter a substance contains
Your mass is the same on Earth and the Moon. Why?

gram: metric unit of measurement of mass *Can you think of anything that is measured in grams?
volume: the quantity of space occupied by a liquid, solid, or gas

weight: measures the effect gravity has on things
