This year at King- we have several events that are for our 8 th grade class. They include: King Yearbook/ Yearbook Party (date TBD) The 8 th Grade Dinner Dance (5/18) 8 th Grade trip to Magic Mountain (5/21) Promotion Celebration (5/22) PLANNING TO CELEBRATE

The M. L. King yearbook price is $27. The yearbook has all color pages, and plenty of space for your child to share memories with classmates. MAKING MEMORIES

The Dinner Dance will be held at Shandin Hills Golf Course in San Bernardino, CA From 5 pm to 8 pm The individual price for tickets is $15 Price includes party, dinner (pasta bar), and dessert (brownies, and cookies). Information about theme will be provided at a later date. DINNER DANCE

*Casual Dressy-Semi Formal Guys: -Nice pants -Collared shirts -Ties optional but preferred. -No jeans or sweats DRESS CODE

*Casual Dressy-Semi Formal Girls: -strapless/spaghetti strap dresses OK. BUT you need to wear a shawl, jacket, or sweater. -No mini skirts or dresses. -Must follow length rule! DRESS CODE

Individual Ticket Price for Magic Mountain is $68 Price includes ticket, t-shirt (mandatory), and lunch buffet (2 hour window). Leave school at 9:00 am and return approximately 8:00 pm MAGIC MOUNTAIN

There is no cost for the promotion celebration. Celebration will take place at Arroyo Valley High School. Berkeley Bears/Duke: 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm Texas A & M/MIT: 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm PROMOTION CELEBRATION

The total price for all events is $100 However we are offering a $10 discount (total price ($90) if students pay for both events and their yearbook as a package. There will also be an opportunity to purchase memory picture CDs for $5 at the 8 th grade dinner dance and promotion celebrations. COSTS

All monies are due by 4/30 for 8 th grade activities (this excludes the yearbook if you are purchasing it separately) you can pay the entire sum, or use one of our payment options listed below: $30 per month for three months (you can start as late as January 2012 with this plan) $18 per month for five months (this plan has to start by December 2011) PAYMENT OPTIONS

All refunds will be in the form of a check. In order to receive a refund, there are certain criteria that need to be met. 1.Refunds will not be issued for yearbooks, t - shirt 2.If student misses event a valid note must be provided to receive refund. Students are expected to follow all MODEL rules at all events. Be respectful- follow all adult directives the first time, stop, look, and listen. Be responsible- make smart choices, bring any issues to an adult/chaperone as soon as possible. Be safe- follow all rules that allow you and your peers to enjoy activities safely. If there are any issues that arise, parents will be called to pick up students, and no refunds will be provided. MODEL EXPECTATIONS

6 “Unexcused” absences will make you make you ineligible! Un-served MODEL detentions How to avoid this: Begin walking when the bell rings Do not stroll---walk to class. Be a soldier!---only stay home if your really sick Take care of bathroom/water needs during lunch and nutrition Make sure parents call to clear your absences. 8 TH GRADE ACTIVITIES REQUIREMENTS--ATTENDANCE

At the Fall Semester – No more than 1 HLR At the Spring Semester week 15 – No more than 3 HLR. Automatic No – Go’s: Drugs, weapons, fighting, suspended on day of event. How to avoid this: Follow all MODEL expectations Seek out adults when you feel like you might do something wrong. Be a leader, not a follower. 8 TH GRADE ACTIVITIES REQUIREMENTS--BEHAVIOR

There will be a Activities Committee that will hear all cases in which the parents appeal our decisions, however you goal is not to have to use them. Only extreme cases would use this committee.
