  Anotace  Didaktický materiál je určen především žákům 4. ročníků maturujících z anglického jazyka. Prezentace obsahuje téma určené k ústní části maturitní zkoušky.  Očekávaný výstup:  Studenti by měli být schopni aplikovat získané znalosti jak v jejich ústním, tak písemné projevu.

  New Year´s Eve (31 st December)  New Year´s Day (1 st January)  Hogmanay (1 st January)  Celebration of the New Year in Scotland  St. Valentine´s Day (14 th February)  Is celebrated in many countries all over the world  People send a card to the one who they love  As gifts are typical roses, chocolate or some jewellery GREAT BRITAIN

  Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesady)  Is day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent  On Pancake Day people make and eat a lot of pancakes  Some towns have a pancake racea on this day  Easter  Holiday celebrating the idea of new birth of Jesus Christ  People give each other chocolate eggs which are opened and eaten on Easter Sunday  Easter Monday is a holiday, people travel to the seaside for the day or go and watch one of the many sport events, such as football or horse-racing.   Christmas Day (25 th December)  One of the most important festival of the year  Most families decorate their houses with brightly-coloured paper, holly and mistletoe, and they usually have a Christmas tree in the room  There is a wreath of green holly with its red berries and red bow with the letters MERRY CHRISTMAS on the front door  Families open their Christmas presents under their Christmas tree at breakfast time  As a main food they have roast turkey with roast potatoes and Christmas pudding  They watch fairy tales and listen to Christmas carrols GREAT BRITAIN

  Thanksgiving  One of the most important festivals celebrated in the last Thursday in November  The Pilgrim fathers and their rich harvest in 1621 laid the foundations of this festival  Typical thanksgiving dinner includes roast turkey cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and pumkin pie  Haloween (All Saint´s Day, 31 st Ocrober)  Celebration of witches, ghosts, black cats and candy, which is very attractive for children  Typical feature of this day are pumpkins with horrible faces with candles inside (jack – o´- lanterns)  Childres dress up and go trick – or treating during whicg they get treats from neighbours THE USA

  Independence Day (4 th July)  The greates American national holiday which celebrate freedom from Great Britain  Typical are parades, patriotic music, fireworks, various funny competitons, barbecues and picnics  Columbus Day (12 th October)  Memorial Day (last Monday in May)  Honours people who died in the Americal Civil War  Veterans Day (second Sunday in November)  Honours those who died in any American War  Presidents´ Day  Martin Luther King Day THE USA
