MY SUMMER CK-12 The CK-12 foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission of producing free online textbooks to reduce the amount of money spent on textbook materials by schools and educational organizations. CK-12 main product is "Flexbooks," which are open-content, collaborative, web-based textbooks.
MY SUMMER CK-12 My particular fellowship is focused on finding and developing real world applications (RWAs) for the probability and statistics concepts included in CK-12's probability and statistics courses.

MAJOR FEATURES ON THE HOMEPAGE Courses are listed by subject areas. Click on a course to see the concepts covered by CK-12 for that course. You can also search for a specific concept on the search bar.
LET’S EXPLORE ONE COURSE…BIOLOGY To do this we click on the “Biology” icon on the homepage.
BIOLOGY COURSE This takes us to a list of the concepts covered in the Biology Course by CK-12. All of the concepts. The search bar is now at the top of the page. You can return to the homepage by clicking “CK-12.” You can go to another course by clicking on “Subject.” rg/browse/biology /

CREATING A “FLEXBOOK”! (10 MIN)
FLEXBOOKS “Flexbooks” are are open-content, collaborative, web-based textbooks. They are free for all members, and membership is free. Flexbooks are customizable textbooks that you can use online or as printed books. You can share flexbooks with students or other teachers. In order to create a flexbook choose from the chapters or concepts available through CK-12 and put them in the order that best fits with your course. You may add additional content – information or practice problems, to your flexbook. A couple things to note: You must be a member in order to create a flexbook. The new ck-12 website requires an , google, facebook, or twitter account. I recommend using a professional account for setting up your membership.
CREATING A FLEXBOOK You can either start with a flexbook for a course that is already created. Then re-arrange, add, or subtract concepts to the flexbook, which is very easy. Or, you can start from scratch. If I wanted to create an Algebra flexbook and want to add a concept. Go to the Concept’s page and click on “Add to Flexbook.” cept/Function-Notation/

TO EDIT YOUR FLEXBOOK In order to edit your flexbook, return to the CK-12 homepage by clicking “CK-12.”
TO EDIT YOUR FLEXBOOK Go to “My Content” and then click on the flexbook you created.
TO EDIT YOUR FLEXBOOK From here you can “edit” your flexbook, allowing you to rearrange topics, add notes or delete topics from the textbook. Click “Edit” to edit your flexbook. By clicking “Resources” you can add add your own content (lessons, explanations, handouts, activities, etc.)
SHARING YOUR FLEXBOOK There are a few different ways that you can share your flexbook with your students, their families, your colleagues, etc. 1.Download it and then share it. a. Download it as a PDF b. Download it to a Kindle. c. Download it to an iPad. 2. it as a web link. 3. Share it on Facebook or Twitter, as a web link.

USING CK-12 TO DIFFERENTIATE SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS’ DIVERSE LEARNING NEEDS (10 MIN)
DIFFERENTIATION WITH CK-12 CK12.org can be used as an excellent tool for differentiation. Many times in the classroom we are challenged to support students who need more time in order to master concepts, while also needing to support students who move very quickly through concepts and are constantly want to be challenged.
SUPPORTING HIGH ACHIEVING STUDENTS’ NEEDS 1. Go to concept list for one subject. 2. The CK-12 website is a great opportunity for students to study and explore contents that you may not have time to cover in your class.
SUPPORTING STRUGGLING STUDENTS’ NEEDS 1. Students that need more time with a concept can use CK-12’s website to get more explanation and practice on a topic. 2.Distribute example of handout for students that need to revisit a concept, based on their quiz result. ETP_Struggling_Student_Support.doc

In order to create an account you must use an , google, facebook, or twitter account. 2) Explore the website and its features. 3) Use your own assessment to brainstorms ways to use CK-12 website to support students. 4) Take notes!
TEACHERS BRAINSTORM IN SMALL GROUPS (10 MIN) In small groups of 3-4 teachers brainstorm ways to use CK12.org to support students’ diverse learning needs. Select 1 teacher to record ideas on chart paper. Select 1 teacher to share out ideas.
SHARE OUT (5 MIN) Each group shares out a few of the ideas that their group came up with of how to use CK12.org in their classes to support students’ diverse learning needs.
