Level 5 - Empower: The capacity to extend learning and teaching through ongoing whole school innovation, with teachers and learners empowered to adapt and adopt new approaches and tools. Level 4 - Extend: Connected technology and progress data extends learning and allows learners greater control on how, what and where they learn. Level 3 - Enhance: The learner is able to learn more independently and be creative, supported by technology providing new ways to learn through collaboration. EMINENT 2014 FUTURE CLASSROOM SCENARIO COURSE EVALUATION Participation:  2235 people started the course. The countries most highly represented on the course (more than 10% of participants) were Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy  62% of participants were secondary teachers  53% had at least 16 years of work experience in the educational field Retention and completion:  Comparatively high for such a large-scale course  Module completion - more than 85% of those who started a module  Retention throughout the course - 49% of those who started the course also completed it

EMINENT 2014 FUTURE CLASSROOM SCENARIO COURSE EVALUATION Other achievements  A “League of Educational Trends” with over 10,000 votes  Approx. 700 classroom pictures with reflections about strengths and weaknesses  Each participant had to create their own Learning Story to complete the course Feedback – course evaluation survey  78% rated the course with the highest available mark (“very good”). 21% rating it at the 2nd highest mark (“good”)  87% report they have tried out a new form of teaching (e.g. more student- focused) since attending the course  69% report having made changes to their classroom setup since attending the course.

EMINENT 2014 In the Commission’s Opening Up Education Communication, (page 5): “Initial teacher education should place a strong emphasis on digital-supported teaching methods (digital pedagogies). A joint EC-OECD survey shows that six teachers out of ten have not received any training on how to use ICT in the classroom. An urgent emphasis on digital pedagogic competences is also needed during continuing professional development to keep teachers updated. Addressing this challenge is at the heart of interests of several stakeholders who, in the context of the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, have already pledged to develop European MOOCs to train teachers in specific skills so as to contribute to boost their digital skills. Among others, the Commission will build further on the European Schoolnet Academy to develop and deliver large scale online professional development courses for teachers in specific areas such as maths, science and technology as well as will support a network of organisations involved in pre- and in-service training for teachers.” iTEC and Initial Teacher Education

EMINENT 2014 iTEC and Initial Teacher Education The Future Classroom Lab in Brussels (June 2014), organised by European Schoolnet and Oulu University - Teacher Educators from Finland, (with teachers from Portugal, Belgium Estonia, UK, Italy). Belgium, Flanders (January 2014). Two day training workshop In the Future Classroom Lab in Brussels - Norwegian teacher education universities, 2 members of the MoE, (with teachers from Italy, Spain, Latvia, Rumania, and France). Lisbon University, hosted jointly by DGE and The Institute of Education (December 2013) European Schoolnet, working with partners (the Institute of Education, Lisbon University, and The Finnish National Board of Education, together with Oulu University, in particular) have explored various options for facilitating the adoption of iTEC outputs with ITE programmes in Europe. Development of a network of Future Classroom Labs, modelled on the European Schoolnet, FCL and sponsored by suppliers. Lisbon University: The Future Teacher E-education Lab, for ITE courses, workshops for teachers. NCIE: establishing a Future Classroom Lab. Rom for lek (Room for play) – situated in Oslo, will function as both a showroom and a space for informal and smaller workshops for innovative ICT-use in subjects Finland: Oulu University will offer two courses based on the Future Classroom outputs Estonia: a teacher training course has been developed within the University of Tallinn, the Associate Partner of the iTEC Partner HITSA.

EMINENT 2014 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? A breakthrough! The change management process and tools developed must be used at scale beyond the project – each partner has produced their own exploitation plan iTEC gives a unique opportunity to change the perceptions teachers have of their role, when it comes to the use of ICT. In 10 years time, will we look back and recognise this change? We have a good set of tools, tried and tested – we must not reinvent the wheel Supporting teachers, school leaders and other stakeholders through ongoing developments in EUN Academy EUN is ready support schools and ministries using tools developed, through the FCL ambassadors and future projects  Projects in assessment  Policy experimentation  Tool validation  Innovation in teacher education
