Uganda Session Solutions Alliance Round-table 9 February, 2016

An Open Door Policy Signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, 1967 Protocol and the OAU Convention Refugee Act of 2006 and the Refugee Regulations of 2010 Uganda has on average hosted 166,000 refugees annually since 1961 Today Uganda hosts 512,966 refugees and asylum seekers – an all time high 3rd largest in Africa 8th largest in the world Approx. 80 % of refugees and asylum seekers in Uganda arrived in the last 5 years

The rights and needs of displaced people - such as freedom of movement, protection, access to basic services and livelihood opportunities - must be understood not only as “humanitarian” in nature, but equally as development challenges to be addressed in concert with the needs of host communities and local institutions. Advice on how the International alliance can support programme development and implementation at the national level Advice on private sector engagement, especially at the local level Data, research and performance measurement support to develop a robust M&E framework
