Reasons to Approve the Big Wave Project: The project fills a gap left open by the public sector by providing needed facilities for the developmentally disabled. It is privately funded & innovative in filling a public need with a private enterprise. It is designed to be financially self-sustaining by linking the non-profit Wellness Center to the adjacent commercial center that will provide work opportunities and rents to financially sustain the the DD individuals who are the primary beneficiaries of the combined project.
The project employs modern technologies in the vanguard of sustainable develop, especially regarding water and waste water systems. These technologies are well suited for the narrow coastal strip of urban development on the San Mateo coast. The project improves the environment by restoring a damaged wetland. The entire site design and wetland restoration is the product of design efforts by Scott Holmes, project engineer, Peggy Fiedler, PhD., & Lyndon Lee, PhD.
