Fuel Cells – A Sustainable Energy Solution Tor Geir Engebretsen CEO / Nordic Power Systems

NPS Business Drivers Growing demand for electric power in mobile and off grid stationary applications Need for increased fuel efficiency Stronger emission restrictions Alternative fuels Higher hydrocarbon prices

Fuel cells – what is it all about A chemical power generator / motor Running on hydrogen Very environmental friendly Much focus from the automotive industry

Fuel cell technologies with a slow adaption Hydrogen a main challenge: –Infrastructure –Volume and safety –Environment / production very energy consuming –Cost

The NPS technology is unique: Fuel cells running on conventional fuels HT PEM fuel cell stack (Chemical processing of gas to electricity and heat) Cool Flame Reformer (Converting fuels to hydrogen reformat gas ) Diesel/ Bio – diesel / Bio oils Military diesel/ Aircraft fuels Ethanol / Other fuels System efficiency: El power: Up to 30 % El + heat: Up to 90 % 4 kW system (pre industrial prototyp) 1 kW system (target < 25 kg / 20 ltr)

Environment No emissions of NOx, soot / diesel particles, CO. Significant reduction of CO2 due to high efficiency Renewable when using bio fuels High efficiency Silent / no smell

The NPS system is the ideal power source for a variety of markets, both for mobile and stationary use, on board on demand.

Hoyanger, located at Sognefjorden, the worlds longest fjord Høyanger is a wide spread community, located on both sides of Sognefjorden, on the West coast of Norway.

Facts on Hoyanger 4500 inhabitants Typical industriual town Succesful restructuring taking place within the traditional industry the last 5-10 years All modern infrastructure and facilities Nearby airport, frequent flights to Oslo and Bergen

NPS working with Hoyanger Formed the company together with the local society in September 2006 (JV) First development phase taking place in Germany and in Porsgrunn, Norway. Hoyanger provides opportunities: –Stabile workforce with relevant competencies –Financial incentives –Dedicated land and facilitating the erection of the plant NPS intends to start operating in Hoyanger late 2009

NPS to locate its first assembly plant in Hoyanger, Norway
