OpenMind Ideas

Insight Architecture Overview Extensible Integration Deployments

Enterprise Features Scribe Insight 6.5 (released 3/30) –Failover –Windows Authentication –Windows Server bit WebServices Adapter (targeted 4/22) –Web Services

Failover Support environments that require high availability Available to customers with enterprise licenses –No additional fees for Scribe Insight Enterprise licenses –Unavailable for Scribe Insight licenses OpenMind Idea #78

Failover Built on Microsoft Clustering Services (MCS) –Clients reference Scribe Server by virtual Cluster Name rather than physical machine names –Install Scribe on two nodes  Active  Passive MCS maintains a heartbeat between the nodes –If heartbeat fails, MCS will activate the passive node

Failover Microsoft Clustering Services Scribe (active node) Scribe (passive node) Shared Resources Message Queues Windows Services Scribe Internal Database

Failover Demo Failover Demo Scenario 1.This demo will show both an “active” instance of Scribe and a “passive” instance of Scribe. 2.The active instance will be shut down 3.MS Cluster Services will start Scribe on the passive instance with no manual intervention required.

Failover Failover Demo Summary –Automatic without need for human interaction –Downtime measured in seconds –No lost state

Windows Authentication Scribe Internal Database stores –Integration processes –Execution log –Monitors and views –Functions (used in Formulae) –Licensing –Etc. All installs of Scribe require an Internal DB OpenMind Idea #26

Windows Authentication Prior to Scribe Insight 6.5, Scribe utilizes SQLServer (Mixed Mode) Authentication to connect to the database –Requires username and password persisted in the Scribe –Requires a Scribe user created in the database –This violated the security standards of many users

Windows Authentication Scribe now supports Windows Authentication –Leverages the built in security in Windows to grant access to SQL Server –Scribe no longer needs to persist credentials –Scribe no longer requires a Scribe user in the database

Windows Authentication With the Insight 6.5 release, the user can now choose to use SQLServer or Windows Authentication –Scribe creates an ODBC Data Source with the correct configuration automatically as part of the installation

Windows Server 2008 Scribe Insight 6.3 –Added support for Windows Server bit –Added support for Windows Server bit Scribe Insight 6.5 –Added support for Windows Server bit

Web Services Adapter Web Services are used to wrap legacy applications –Our targeted user for v1.0 is someone who has created their own web service Many Commercial applications are exposing API’s through Web Services –AX has web services - users will need a working knowledge of AIF to be successful –SharePoint has web services - users will need to stitch together XML strings via workbench functions

Web Services Adapter Web Services are a development tool by their nature; users should have a working knowledge of both general Web Services concepts and XML V1.0 of the Adapter will support: –Soap based Web Services via HTTP & HTTPS –Using a Web Service as a source and/or target –Soap Headers –Custom exception handling

Web Services Adapter Demo Web Services Demo Scenario 1.Review Web Services Adapter in Scribe Workbench 2.Demonstrate CRM Accounts being created in SharePoint

Update Source Before Insight 6.5 –You can update a source field with a static value In Insight 6.5 –You can specify a formula to update source field with dynamic values (e.g, timestamp) –You can utilize a new function GetRowError() These two features can be used together OpenMind Ideas #57 & 76

Regular Expressions Regular expressions provide an extremely powerful and concise syntax for pattern matching in strings regexmatch() –For example, verify well-formed zip codes regexreplace() –For example, normalize telephone numbers Roll your own string matching functions OpenMind Idea #20

Demonstrations Update Source 1.Updating source using GetRowError() function 2.Updating source using current date Regular Expressions Demos 1.Use a Regular Expression to filter vendors from customer list based on format of Account ID

Name Target Steps Before Insight 6.5 –Scribe automatically generated “generic” step names –Step controls were cryptic, hard to understand In Insight 6.5 –You can choose your own names for steps OpenMind Idea #88

Enhanced Step Copy Prior to Insight 6.5 –Selecting “step copy” will create a new step with no datalinks or lookup links In Insight 6.5 –Selecting “step copy” will create a new step with the same mappings as the original step OpenMind Idea #38

Refresh Data Prior to Insight 6.5 –Inconvenience corner case  Source with zero or one record, “First” button disabled  Close and re-open the DTS to refresh source data In Insight 6.5 –You can click the refresh button to instruct the Workbench to requery the source OpenMind Idea #80

Demonstrations Rename Step –Provide intuitive names to Scribe steps Enhanced Step Copy –Copies data and lookup links when step is copied Refresh Data –Quick refresh (w/o closing Workbench) simplifies testing

DTS Without DataLinks Field values can be populated via a variety of mechanisms –Explicitly using a data link –Implicitly via auto foreign key assignment –Implicitly via application logic, database default values, or adapter logic OpenMind Idea #71

DTS Without DataLinks Prior to Insight 6.5 –Scribe complains if a mapping contains no data links In Insight 6.5 –Scribe allows mappings with no datalinks

Offline DTS in Insight Prior to Insight –Could not open a DTS unless you could connect to the source and the target In Insight –Can now open a DTS in offline mode –Does not require connection to source or target –Full access to links and formulae –Read-only OpenMind Idea #18
