Shape Detectives

First Graders are shape detectives! We found lots of shapes at Northside Elementary School. We found shapes everywhere we looked: in the hallways, classrooms, gym, art room, cafeteria, even outside! Look at all the shapes we discovered!

Square The attributes of a square are: 4 sides all the same size 4 corners

Square

Rectangle The attributes of a rectangle are: 2 long sides 2 short sides 4 corners

Rectangle

Circle The attributes of a circle are: a 2-dimensional shape made by drawing a curve that is always the same distance from a center.

Circle

Triangle The attributes of a triangle are: 3 sides 3 corners

Triangle t

Rhombus The attributes of a rhombus: 4 sides 4 corners The rhombus is also called a diamond.

Rhombus

Trapezoid The attributes of a trapezoid are: 2 sides that are the same length 1 side that is long 1 side that is short 4 corners

Trapezoid

Hexagon The attributes of a hexagon are: 6 sides 6 corners

Hexagon

Pentagon The attributes of a pentagon are: 5 sides 5 corners the corners are the same the corners are more open than square corners most of the sides are diagonal the sides are all the same length

Pentagon

Octagon The attributes of an octagon are: 8 sides 8 corners

Octagon

Cube A solid shape that has: 6 square faces 8 corners 12 equal sides

Cube

Sphere A three-dimensional solid that is perfectly round.

Sphere

Rectangular Prism A prism that has two rectangular bases that are the same size

Rectangular Prism

Cylinder A solid shape with one curved surface that has circle or oval bases

Cylinder

Pyramid A solid shape with a polygon base and triangular faces that taper to a point

Pyramid

Cone A curved shape with an oval or circle base and a curved surface that tapers to a point

Cone
