Expected Writing ELD Proficiency Level Early Advanced Strategies and Applications Write persuasive compositions that structure ideas and arguments in a logical way with consistent use of standard grammatical forms. Write reflective compositions that explore the significance of events.

Expected Writing ELD Proficiency Level Early Advanced English Language Conventions Create coherent paragraphs through effective transitions. Revise writing for appropriate word choice, organization, consistent point of view, and transitions, with some variation in grammatical forms and spelling. Edit writing for grammatical structures and the mechanics of writing.

Question Format Short Composition Students are asked to write a short essay based on a given topic Students’ answers are scored on a 4-point short composition rubric Sample question

Short Composition Directions You will write a short essay about a given topic. Think about what you will write before you write it. Use descriptions, details, and examples to make your writing interesting. Your short essay should have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Write at least three complete sentences. Pay attention to grammar, capital letters, punctuation, and spelling. Make your writing clear. Do not write outside the box.
