FFA History

1917 Year that courses in vocational agriculture were established

Smith-Hughes Act Established funding for vocational agriculture in high school

Virginia The first state to form a club for boys in agricultural classes Future Farmers of Virginia 1925

1928 The FFA National Organization was established Club for boys with similar farm interests

1930 FFA Creed was adopted National Colors Established –National Blue & Corn Gold

1933 First National FFA day Currently celebrated on George Washington’s Birthday

New Farmers of America (NFA) Organization for African American agriculture students 1935

A Federal Charter 1950Public law 740 passed by congress in 1950 granted the FFA a federal charter

1965 The FFA and the NFA merged Added 50,000

1969 Women were allowed into the FFA

1988 Name changed from the Future Farmers of America to… National FFA Organization WHY?

2012 National Convention completes 7yr run in Indianapolis and returns to Louisville in 2013 for 3 years Was held in Kansas City for 71 years (until 1999)
