DO NOW 1.Why do you have the color hair that you have? 2.What are traits? 3.What does the word inherit mean? 4.What do you know about genetics?

Question 1 Here's the basics of how it works. This is a simplification, but explains a whole lot of how inherited traits like hair and eye color work. Your genes are made up of pairs of bits of DNA. For each gene, there are a range of possible DNA sequences that exist in our species. All of these possible values are called alleles; in general terms, each allele is connected to some specific variation of a physical trait. Supposing that a single gene determined eye color, there would be an allele for blue eyes, an allele for hazel eyes, and so on (eye color is actually determined by more than one gene, but it's a good example to get an idea for what an allele is).

Traits are characteristics inherited from your parents. A trait is something that past down from the generations Inherit refers to the passing down of traits and genes from parents to offspring.

Identify the Scientific Method in Mendel’s Work. 1.Ask a question 2.Form a hypothesis 3.Test the hypothesis 4.Analyze the results 5.Draw conclusions 6.Communicate the results

Identify the Scientific Method in Mendel’s Work. 1.Ask a question – How are traits inherited? 2.Form a hypothesis – Inheritance has a pattern 3.Test the hypothesis – Cross true-breeding plants and offspring. 4.Analyze the results – Identify patterns in inherited traits. 5.Draw conclusions – Traits are inherited in predictable patterns. 6.Communicate the results – Publish the results in scientific literature.
