Turning points in World War Two- An Assessment task This task will have 2 strands. Firstly you will work in groups to research your chosen turning point. then On your own you will evaluate a primary source and explain how reliable it has been in your study of the significance of your event.

Group Work Once you have your turning point you need to begin your research. Use the internet and recommended sites as well as the box of LRC books. BBCwebsite has a good section on WW2 Historylearning site

Your research You will need: – A brief description of the event. What had happened in the war before this event, did this event have a particular aim? –why was your event significant /important?, what were the consequences of your event, did it change the course of the war in any way? –As you do your research look for and keep a note of any sources that you have used that were particularly useful. Be prepared to explain how useful they were and any limitations they had.

Independent Assessment Question Choose one primary source on your chosen topic. a) What does your source suggest about your chosen turning point?( 4 marks) b) How reliable is this source for your enquiry? ( you may refer to provenance, purpose and content of the source) (6 marks) c) Using your own knowledge explain why your event was a key turning point in WW2( 10 marks) Your answer should be detailed, factually accurate and your Points should be explained in full.

After the war he was interviewed by Basil Liddell Hart for his book The Other Side of the Hill (1948) Wilhelm von ThomaBernard MontgomeryBasil Liddell Hart I thought he (Montgomery) was very cautious, considering his immensely superior strength, but he is the only Field-Marshal in this war who won all his battles. In modern mobile warfare the tactics are not the main thing. The decisive factor is the organization of one's resources to maintain the momentum. Discuss how the provenance of this source makes it a better source choice than the previous source.
