Structure of DNA

DNA The nucleic acid that stores and transmits genetic information of a cell from one generation to the next Nucleic = in the nucleus!

DNA Made of building blocks called nucleotides Each DNA is made up of thousands of nucleotides. This is called a polymer.

Deoxyribose A 5-carbon sugar. Each corner = one carbon atom.

Nitrogenous Bases In DNA there are 4 nitrogenous bases – Adenine – Thymine – Cytosine – Guanine Always pair together

Example: If ½ a DNA molecule has the following bases, what are the complimentary bases for the other half of the molecule? ACGCTAGCG
