How To Do Outline of Research Paper By M. J. Brestle

Purpose The purpose of the outline is to plan the construction and organization of the research paper.

Students should decide where in the paper they will use the citations (info. from sources).

How to do Outline: Use basic outlining techniques ~ organize using any combination on the following format:

I. Introduction – There are many ways to introduce your topic including but not limited to: telling a story, giving an example, definition or as most will do, a general overview.

Be sure the last sentence of your introduction is a Thesis Statement – which organizes and gives an overview of your paper. (Ask teacher if unsure)

II. First topic A. Introduce in your words ~ citation 1 Explain in your words B. Introduce in your words~ citation 2 Explain in your words

III. Second topic A. Introduce in your words~ citation 3 Explain in your words B. Introduce in your words ~ citation 4 Explain in your words
