Presentation transcript:

Infrastructure is basic physical and organizational structures needed for the operation of a society or enterprise or the services and facilities necessary for an economy to function.

India is the seventh largest and second most populous country in the world. A new spirit of economic freedom is now stirring in the country, bringing sweeping changes in its wake. India's democracy is a known and stable factor, which has taken deep roots over nearly half a century. Importantly, India has no fundamental conflict between its political and economic systems. Its political institutions have fostered an open society with strong collective and individual rights.

71% of Indians live in rural areas 89% have no access to telephones 52% do not have access to power 10% have no access to drinking water, 91% have no access to toilet facilities Average distance to all weather roads is 2 km 244 million rural people are “poor”

Bharat Nirman Program has been introduced to provide infrastructure in rural areas Other schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadhak Yojana for rural roads, the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Program for rural water and sanitation, the Rajiv Gandhi Vidyukranthi Yojana for rural electrification etc have been introduced.

About 70% of India's energy generation capacity is from fossil fuels, with coal accounting for 40% of India's total energy consumption followed by crude oil and natural gas at 24% and 6% respectively Energy conservation has emerged as a major policy objective, and the Energy Conservation Act 2001, was passed by the Indian Parliament in September 2001, 35.5% of the population still live without access to electricity. This Act requires large energy consumers to adhere to energy consumption norms.

The key development objectives of the power sector is supply of electricity to all areas including rural areas. Both the central government and state governments would jointly endeavour to achieve this objective at the earliest. India is using Renewable Sources of Energy like Hydel Energy, Wind Energy, and Solar Energy to electrify villages.

Health is the level of functional and (or) metabolic efficiency of a living being. In humans, it is the general condition of a person in mind, body and spirit, usually meaning to be free from illness, injury or pain.

A large part of India’s population lives on less than $2 a day. The standards of living and hygiene is very unsatisfactory, especially in rural areas. All these reasons, coupled with a sub tropical climate, makes India a hotbed for diseased people. The Constitution charges every state with "raising of the level of nutrition and the standard of living of its people and the improvement of public health as among its primary duties”.

The Indian healthcare industry is seen to be growing at a rapid pace and is expected to become a US$280 billion industry by Rising income levels and a growing elderly population are all factors that are driving this growth. In addition, changing demographics, disease profiles and the shift from chronic to lifestyle diseases in the country has led to increased spending on healthcare delivery.

Malnutrition - 47% of India’s children below the age of three are malnourished. High Infant Mortality Rate - Approximately 1.72 million children die each year before turning one Diseases - Diseases such as dengue fever, hepatitis, tuberculosis, malaria and pneumonia continue to plague India due to increased resistance to drugs.India is ranked 3rd among the countries with the most number of HIV-infected. Poor Sanitation

The average female life expectancy today in India is low compared to many countries, but it has shown gradual improvement over the years. In many families, especially rural ones, the girls and women face nutritional discrimination within the family, and are anaemic and malnourished. The maternal mortality in India is the second highest in the world.Only 42% of births in the country are supervised by health professionals. Most women deliver with help from women in the family who often lack the skills and resources to save the mother's life if it is in danger. 88% of pregnant women (age 15-49) suffer from anaemia.

Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) was created in March,1995 and re-named as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November, 2003.
