Presentation transcript:

The sun’s energy heats the Earth, contributing to evaporation.

Weather Tools Wind. This tool measures wind speed. It is called an anemometer. A tool that measure the direction of the win is a wind vane. Precipitation. Rain, snow, sleet and hail are all forms of precipitation. A rain gauge measures precipitation. Temperature. Temperature is how warm or cold it is outside. A thermometer measures temperature. Air Pressure. A barometer measures air pressure.

What effect will the incoming front have on local weather? Notice the direction that the cold front is coming in. It is coming from the west and blowing to the EAST. The temperature is at 15 °C.

What effect will the incoming front have on local weather? Notice HOW the wind vane is pointing to the east (right) and the temperature has dropped to 0 °C.

Notice the arrows which shows the order in which the seasons occur.

Shadows You must know that the SUN rises in the EAST and sets in the WEST (when we go to rest). What time of day does this diagram show?

Shadows The SUN is in the EAST so it is earlier in the DAY! Why is the shadow on the LEFT side?

Shadows It is on the left side because the POLE is in between the sun and the shadow. Where will the shadow be if it is later in the day?

Shadows The sun will be closer to the west. So the shadow will now be seen on the right of the diagram. The pole still remains in between the sun and the shadow.

Unequal heating of the Earth from the Sun causes water to change form and move. Water evaporates from lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans and forms water vapor.

Climate = clothes in a closet Weather = clothes for the day

Notice the direction of the fronts. What will the weather be like in Austin?

What do you notice about the high and low temperatures?

How would the moon appear at the arrow? Draw it.

As a result of Earth’s rotation, most shorelines have two high tides and two low tides each day. The tides are usually a little more than six hours apart.

This in an example of how to graph high and low tides.
