Supporting the Lifecycle Generic challenges… Improve Through Life Capability Management Translating user requirements into system readiness, availability and logistics support capability Connect Product Development & Product Support and enable Total Lifecycle Management Increased Collaboration with Industrial Partners Increased move to industrial partnering, and deep supply chain, highlights need for robust data interchange methods Multi-CAD, design, build & support environments Cost Reduction in Defence Programmes Defence reviews looking to cut costs Through Life Cost (TLC) initiatives e.g. long term contracts based on cost reduction initiatives Contracting for Support through Performance Based metrics Guarantee of Availability, Performance, System Reliability, Maintainability Fixed price contracting methodologies Increased involvement of OEM in support lifecycle © 2012 PTC COMMERCIAL IN CONFIDENCE

Product Development & Support The Changing Landscape How is the Product Support landscape changing? Customer – shift from government-provided to industry-provided support Industry – positioning for support contracting while stripping cost from acquisition phase Standards – proliferation of new PS / ILS standards How must Product Development evolve to accommodate the changing Product Support landscape? Support-empathetic design philosophy Design FOR Support Prominence and influence of support engineering Design THE Support Extended scope of PLM to include support phase Support THE Design Embedded formal design feedback loop from field Support FOR Design How must PLM change to embrace the first two questions? “Successfully incorporate the evolving product support requirement into a consolidated collection of product development processes and capabilities, that manage ALL product configurations and assets through ALL phases of the lifecycle, and provide total synchronicity between the digital and physical asset at each applicable lifecycle phase.” © 2012 PTC COMMERCIAL IN CONFIDENCE

From “as-designed” to “as-delivered”, configuration baselines retain links to original requirements. Of particular interest is the “Validate” phase – design for support criteria are captured through design evolution, and represented as a configuration here, with full associativity to all product information. Traditional disconnect occurs when product is delivered. The “as-delivered” and “as-maintained” configurations typically become disconnected from previous configurations, and from themselves. To make FHS, and application of effective performance management, work, accurate product configurations must be maintained across the complete lifecycle, including the support phase. © 2012 PTC COMMERCIAL IN CONFIDENCE © Copyright 2002 Parametric Technology Corporation

Design (eBOM)  Support (sBOM) Transformation Why have eBOM ≠ sBOM ? Engineering and Support Team require different perspectives on the product Items Design and Support/Service Items behave differently… Maturity and Lifecycle rules Access Controls Naming & Numbering Attributes Related Items/Doc Content/Attachments Using CBS in engineering creates a significant burden on design teams Impact on Schedule Service Planning Team cannot wait until the complete eBOM is frozen to create a Support BOM Ensuring Conformity Continuously evolving engineering design has a large impact on downstream Support deliverables Vast potential for errors and rework Flag-up Updated/Revised Design Items across the Equivalence Link to Support LRU LCN/SNS LCN 2 / SNS B LCN 3 / SNS 7 LCN 4 / SNS 41 LCN 6 / SNS 4 LCN 7 / SNS 9 LCN 8 / SNS 43 LCN 15 / SNS 99 LCN 23 / SNS 5 LCN 1 / SNS A LCN 76 / SNS 2 LCN 4 / SNS 6 MRAP MX-1097/A PN 324-DFX-002 PN 324-3R5-004 PN 324-PIU-099 PN 324-DFX-694 PN 324-DFY-334 PN 323-AUX-098 PN 323-SW-003 PN 326-SW-876 PN 324-1567-AS9 PN 324-ENG-385 Engineering BOM As Supported Prod Structure equivalent equivalent equivalent Obj Management rules Spatial Maturity Seat Requirement Interface Type Design Data Related CDRLs Spatially Integrated Capital Item Deliverables Maintainable status Spareable Status Fitting Dates Removal Dates Logistical Data Replacements History © 2009 PTC © 2012 PTC COMMERCIAL IN CONFIDENCE
