Why Connect the County? To put network software tools into the correct locations for County of Grey staff to serve the public well!

Phase 1 - Markdale Site Woodford Ceylon

History of Accomplishments  October 02 - Two Redline radios arrive for testing;100’ communication tower is ordered  Mid-November 02 – Fibre Optic cable is installed at Markdale from Water tower to Grey Gables and Fibre Optic cable is installed at Owen Sound from Admin Bldg to tower site;  End-November 02 – 100’ tower is installed at Owen Sound Site and six Radios are installed on towers

History continued  End- November 02 - it was determined that there was not a line of sight from Woodford to Markdale water tower;  It was decided to extend the link to Ceylon then back to Markdale;  Mid Dec to Mid Jan Radios tested successfully with a noticeably slow link between Woodford and Ceylon.  24 Jan 03 4 foot parabolic antennas ordered to improve the Woodford – Ceylon link.

What’s planned  Install parabolic antennas at Woodford and Ceylon;  This will improve the speed of the connection;  We will also install cross brace mounts for the increased wind load.

Phase 2 – Durham Site

What’s planned  Hire a crane and tower crew to test line-of-sights in Durham as follows:  Rockwood Terrace to Ceylon tower;  Durham water tower to Ceylon;  Durham water tower to Rockwood Terrace  Estimated cost is $3,000.00

Phase 3 – Clarksburg Site

Clarksburg Connection  Gary Shaw and Ernie Coates have negotiated for a pair of fibre optic cable from Rogers Cable from Owen Sound to Meaford to Thornbury;  Town of Blue Mountains has reserved a location on the Thornbury water tower for a wireless radio;  TAPS is waiting for Rogers Cable to forward a contract for the fibre optic cable;

Potential Target Dates  Feb 6 th Install Parabollic Antennas Woodford and Ceylon;  Feb Phase 2 – Crane Line-of-sight testing in Durham;  March Phase 2 Order Durham Radio Equipment;  March Phase 3 Review Rogers Fibre Contract;  April Phase 2 Install & Test Radio to Durham;  April Phase 3 Complete Fibre Owen Sound to Thornbury;  May Phase 3 Install & Test Radio to Clarksburg;

What’s Next?  Do we connect Municipal Offices?  What do we offer them?  They don’t all want or need the same “stuff”.  Do we collaborate with Schools and Hospitals?  Do we guarantee service?

What does Wireless Cost?  Towers - $10,000 - $15,000  Radio Equipment, depending on speed requirements – approx $6,000 per end;  Cables/Fibre/Trenching - $1000 plus;  Installation – approx $1,000 per end;  Network switch/cabling if required $1,500
