Helmsley Grant: RFP Overview & Questions Brett Visger Associate Vice Chancellor, Institutional Collaboration and Completion, ODHE Dan Krane Special Assistant for Completion Initiatives, ODHE April 20-21, 2016 Bridges to Success: Linking Corequisite Courses, Gateway Courses and Degree Pathways Sharonville Convention Center/Lorain County Community College

Program Purpose Improve student success by systematically linking three successful strategies: –Guided degree pathways –Redesigned mathematics gateway courses –Corequisite remediation ODHE will provide grants and technical assistance to at least eight public institutions 2

Program Background Multifaceted approaches have the greatest impact on student success and affordability: –Degree pathways –Mathematics gateway courses –Corequisite remediation Ohio Mathematics Initiative (OMI) learning outcome standards –Quantitative reasoning –Statistics –Science/Technology/Engineering/Mathematics (STEM) Ohio’s Uniform Statewide Standards for Remediation-Free Status 3

Eligible Applicants State institutions of higher education Team of faculty, advisors and administrators attended one of two convenings Collaboration (particularly two- and four-year institutions serving similar populations of students) encouraged 4

Expected Outcomes Identify 3-5 structured pathways that incorporate guided degree pathways, mathematics gateways, and corequisite remediation strategies in mathematics One pilot pathway must be implemented by January 2017 and the remaining pilots implemented by September 2017 Develop a plan that outlines timeline to expand implementation of all of the facets of the pilot to more majors by April 2017 Student success and retention in the piloted pathways with corequisites will be evaluated 5

Anticipated Awards/Timeline Planning grants of up to $20,000 per participating institution will be awarded Request for Proposals Released: April 20 and 21 Proposal Questions: April 25 to May 25, 2016 Proposals Due: 12 pm May 31, 2016 Notification of Awarded Proposals: June 30,
