WHAT IS GATEWAY?  A gateway is a node that allows you to gain entrance into a network and vice versa. On the Internet the node which is the stopping point can be a gateway or a host node. A computer that controls the traffic your network or your ISP (Internet Service Provider) receives is a node.  When a computer server serves as a Gateway node, the gateway node also operates as a firewall and a proxy server. A firewall is a system created to prevent unauthorized admission into a private network. A proxy server is located right between a client application such as a web browser and the real server. The proxy server sees if the client applications requests can be carried out by the real server.

Gateways for Home 1. Linksys WRT54G Home Network Gateway - Linksys WRT54G Home Network Gateway comes with the latest N-standard Wi-Fi connectivity which provides better in-home wireless coverage at faster speeds. This means our customers can more reliably share the internet around the home at the same time.

Features of Linksys WRT54G Home Network Gateway  Supports ADSL/ADSL2+ connections  Improved Wi-Fi n (2 receive x 2 transmit) – Backward compatible to b/g  One 10/100/1000 BASE-T (Gigabit) Ethernet LAN port to provide wired connectivity  Three 10/100 BASE-T (Fast Ethernet) LAN ports to provide wired connectivity  Hybrid WPA & WPA2 capability – supporting secure Wi-Fi connections for new and older Wi- Fi devices.  Wireless Protected Setup (WPS), including a push-button switch to activate WPS for simplified and secure wireless setup.  Two USB 2.0 port master ports (Type A connector) connects to a USB port on USB storage device, printers & 3G USB dongles.  IPv6 ready – Gateway will be able to migrate onto the IPv6 environment.

Gateway for Enterprise  Sierra Wireless AirLink® LS 3000 of 3G gateways - The Sierra Wireless AirLink® LS 3000 of 3G gateways is a compact, all-in-one successor to the market-leading Raven line of rugged gateways

FEATURES  Four times the on-premise capacity at 32TB to target larger source data sets  Four times the cloud storage capacity at 64–160TB to store more data, longer  Faster 1.5TB/hour ingest performance to reduce the backup window  Double the internal memory to 64GB  RAID-6 protection  Up to 60TB of weekly data protected at typical de-dup rates

Comparison of Enterprise Home Wireless Gateway  Enterprise wireless gateway more expensive than home wireless gateway.  A local intelligent cache stores the most recent and frequently accessed data — speeding the recovery of important data. They also encrypt the data in the local cache, as well as in transit and at the cloud service provider that the home gateway does not have.  The Enterprise wireless gateway is stuffed with high-powered hardware than Home wireless gateway. The most powerful model we have ever produced gives large enterprises a fast, cost-efficient, and encrypted method to back up very large data sets to offsite cloud-based backup providers..

CONCLUSION  As conclusion a gateway is one of the many ways we can communicate over the World Wide Web. The gateway allows us to enter different networks on the internet so we can transmit data back and forth. There's also software available where you can be able to run several networks on a computer.
