VISUAL ART CLASS Mrs. Elizabeth Albright Room 1421 This is a semester long! We will focus on visual literacy, various art techniques and media through creative applications.
WARNING! Students will get messy in this class! Students will ALWAYS be encouraged to wear an apron and wash hands!
ROLE OF ART EDUCATION Creation requires a higher order thinking and learning process: remember→ understand→ apply→ analyze→ evaluate→ CREATE (Bloom’s Taxonomy) Students integrate history, culture, math, science, and other subjects into art. Art provides an outlet for students. Words are not required for communication.

SUPPLIES Pencils (minimum 6) Sketchbook: buy from me for $ 6.00 or find same in stores. White polymer eraser Pencil Sharpener Optional additional supplies: eraser, glue stick, colored pencils. Students should write their names on these extra supplies and keep them in their art bins! A-F: a roll of paper towels; G-L: hand soap; M-R:resealable bags (gallon size); S-Z: tissues
EXPECTATIONS RESPECT Yourself = students should be on time, bring their supplies, participate and DO THEIR BEST Others = Students should pay attention instead of talking, they should stay in their seat, and whisper during project time Property = students should use materials properly and as directed, clean up, leave food outside of the art room PWCS Code of Behavior and Gainesville Guidelines apply to students in art class.
EXPECTATIONS (continued) During instructions and demonstrations students are asked to pay attention, instead of talking, walking, getting supplies, taking out projects from their bins, or sharpening pencils. PWCS Zero Tolerance Rule: Depicting violent or inappropriate images or equipment is not allowed. Credit will not be given for work containing these images.
GRADING 90/10 assessment theory 90% =“The Knowing” 10% =“The Learning” “90%” in art: final art projects, quizzes, written evaluations and summaries (artist statements), art critique and artist research essays, etc. “10%” in art: sketchbooks, warm-ups, worksheets, class activities, group work, rough drafts for art critiques and artist researches, tec. RE-DO AVAILABLE IN THE 90% CATEGORY
NHI= Not Handed In YET! Students may hand in work right up to the end of the 9 weeks.
Each large project will be graded with a rubric so there is no question why a certain grade was earned.
