NEWSPAPERS TO NEWS BLOGS BY PAMELA DRAKE

"Interactive: Radio through the Years." - Al Jazeera English. Web. 30 Sept ●Newspapers ●Radios ●Dramatic change ●Traditional news mediums are declining in ratings ●Other mediums are quicker to access ●More people are going online to get their news

Why News Blogs ●News blogs are insightful, fast breaking news. ●Instant delivery of the news and zero cost. ●Many traditional newspapers and magazines have blogs. ●Blogs are more personal. ●No brand name necessary. ●Can be edited and updated later. ●Blogs encourage conversation and cross linking.

Today, digital technology and wireless connectivity has caused a shift in society and therefore, a shift in news gathering. In this “always on” society, we have mediums such as Twitter, where viewers not only read and view the news but participate in its content. When asked how many hours a day participants spent using social media tools, 14.5% answered a whopping five hours a day or more — a sizeable increase over last year’s most frequent user group at 8.8%. The number of people who use social media one- to-four hours a day also grew, reaching 66% in 2013; more than a 10% increase from social-media-for-businessfinance- news/#sthash.xWvXLlvY.dpuf

YouTube is a major source of news thanks to users and news agencies who upload more than 7000 hours worth of news footage every single day. "YouTube Users Upload 7000 Hours Of News Videos Every Day - Social News Daily." Social News Daily. 19 Dec Web. 1 Oct

"Google News & Weather Update Supports Apple Watch." Google News & Weather Update Supports Apple Watch. Web. 1 Oct Catch up on news headlines you may have missed.

Never before have we had so many civilians photographers who immediately send in their snapshots after an event has just happened and instantly, it’s available for airing.

How should professional journalist use this new media to research and publish news stories that holds up to the integrity of the story? ●Crowdsourcing is used as a way to extend the reporter’s eyes and ears into the community and beyond. ●Sharing sources enables news organizations to cover more stories in depth and develops more accuracy in reporting. ●They are now part of a large collaboration of people operating on a social communications platform. ●We, as citizens, without any formal training in journalism, are engaged in the writing, editing, publishing, and reading stories, and must critically view them. I chose this topic because I do get my news from going online, it’s a great way to get the news, and it’s available whenever I want it.
