Design and Technology Yr 7&8 ICT Pizza Box Design

Project Outline 4 The project is aimed at developing the ICT skills of the pupils through the use of Word and Excel 4 Pupils will create design sheets and learn to develop their presentation skills using the simple drawing menu in Word 4 The design outcome will use card templates made using the Camm1 plotter cutter 4 Link to Scheme of work Link to Scheme of work

Getting Started 4 Brainstorm Pizza box packaging 4 Get pupils to record brainstorm in rough 4 Demonstrate sheet presentation and layout 4 Setting page to 4 A4, 4 landscape, 4 adding borders, 4 WordArt 4 and text boxes

Brainstorm Sheet 4 Present the information we covered in class using Word, WordArt and AutoShapes 4A picture of a pizza box has been inserted and WordArt used to enhance the presentation 4A Problem and Brief has been added to focus the task

Product Evaluation 4 Pupils take a Pizza box from the resource store 4 Using the Product Evaluation sheet pupils write about the main points of the design 4 Link to example Link to example 4 Link to help sheet Link to help sheet

Questionnaire 4 Pupils create a questionnaire to find out what kind of Pizza people want 4 They must make their questions multiple choice 4 They will need at least 5 questions 4 Present the questionnaire using Word 4 Remind them the sheet will need 4 A border 4 A WordArt heading 4 Use a Table to give space for your Tally 4 Get their friends to answer the questionnaire 4 Link to example Link to example

Results 4 Using Microsoft Excel and your tally results create 4 graphs 4 Add a title to each graph 4 Copy and the paste them into a separate Word document 4 When you paste use Paste special and choose Picture 4 Add a detailed conclusion to each graph to explain not only what you have found out but what this will mean for your design 4 Link to example Link to example From this graph I have found out that Pepperoni is the most popular flavour, so I will design my first Pizza box to be for a Pepperoni topped Pizza

Quick Ideas 4 Using Quick Ideas sheet 4 Pupils add Six drawing of possible box fronts 4 Notes are added to explain whether or not the idea would be effective at selling the pizza 4 Comments from others are very useful 4 Link to Quick Idea sheet Link to Quick Idea sheet 4 Link to example Link to example

Development 4 Taking one of their Quick Ideas as a starting point the pupils will then make improvements to the details of their design e.g:- 4 Layout 4 Colour 4 Picture 4 Lettering, etc 4 Then create at least 2 ideas for the back of the pizza box as well as 4 ideas for the sides, look at a real pizza box to see the kind of information needed 4 Link to example

Final Design 4 Using the Pizza Box template sheet pupils add their final design in colour and by hand before attempting to add the design to the net on the computer 4 All information must be included on the back of the box e.g. Ingredients, nutritional information, etc. 4 Link to Pizza Box Template Link to Pizza Box Template

Final Design Computer 4 Using the skills learnt so far the pupils can now apply their design to the Net on the computer 4 The pupils must draw over the net before they can add colour of effects 4 Glue tabs can be left white 4 Link to example Link to example

Camm1 Plotter Cutter 4 Introduce the Camm1 link to photolink to photo 4 Explain its functions 4 Illustrate how it can be used in Industry for Vinyl signs etc 4 Demonstrate its use with Techsoft 2D Design 4 Assign some pupils to create the card nets

Completing the Box 4 Using the Net created on the Camm1 plotter cutter 4 Cut out both the card net and the final design net carefully 4 Pritt stick the two together aligning the edges 4 Then using Hot glue form the box into its finished shape

Evaluation 4 Pupils now evaluate the effectiveness of their design using the help sheet and add comments from others to support their views 4 Pupils will then present the evaluation on the computer possibly adding their design to the sheet 4 Link to example Link to example 4 Link to help sheet Link to help sheet
