There is no need for you to download Autocad in your laptops/PCs. Because you have enough time to begin and complete the assignment in the Civil Engineering labs (during the laboratories scheduled in the timetable and in your own time). JF students have preference for using the Civil Engineering labs, from now until the assignment submission deadline (April 15 th ) as follows: Monday to Thursday Friday However, if you wish to download Autocad, access this site:

Changing the interface to “classic” (this is the interface used in the lab)- ONLY IF DOWNLOADING ACAD IN OWN MACHINE. Launch autocad 2015 (ignore autocad 2013 icons which still may be on some machines) Create a new file or open one of the demo files – this brings up the ‘command line’ box in the bottom middle of screen. Type CUI at the prompt and press enter which opens the Customize User Interface dialog box. Select the desired workspace (usually acad.cuix is the active one which is fine and you can skip to next step) Use the plus symbol to open the Toolbars tree in the left window. Click to highlight the first available toolbar then highlight all the toolbars by holding down shift key and using arrow down. (as far as ‘Layer II’ should give the common toolbars) Drag the highlighted toolbars to the toolbars tree in the right window and drop. Click Apply and then click OK to close the configuration editor. You should now have a range of icons in a toolbar towards top of screen.

Launch Autocad 2015 icon on desktop

Classic interface of 2015 version

OTHER VERSIONS Autocad 2008 Autocad 2000 Autocad 2000LT, etc… You can use any version provided it is compatible with the 2015 version in the labs. Autocad (10% of 1E9) is assessed by assignment and this is an electronic submission so make sure your submission works in Acad 2015 or your marks will be lost.

Drafting software Typical functions: Draw and edit entities Fast- we can recycle/reuse parts or full drawings (layers, blocks) Pull down menu, tool bars, icons. Command line: Across the bottom Here we receive what the Acad system prompts When the word command is displayed, the system is asking what to do We can respond by typing a command or using icons or the pull down menu Status line: Below command line Describes the operating mode –use it to set drawing aids such us grid and snap modes.

Mouse Position on screen indicated by the cursor Holding cursor on an icon, a box appears telling what the icon does Left-click on mouse is the pick button Keyboard Escape to exit a command. Enter to enable command / to bring previous command back. In general, Acad operations consist of: 1.Set up working environment (limits, units) 2.Draw entities 3.Modify entities (editing commands)
