  The dedicated and professional staff is ready to listen to a variety of concerns you, a student, may have. Services are available at any of our campuses - Cooper, Leestown, Danville, Lawrenceburg, Winchester, and our newest location Newtown.  The staff’s top priority is to make sure you, the student, feel safe and comfortable in a confidential and no-pressure counseling atmosphere.  At no time are there any charges for our services. Personal Counseling

 A list of just a few of the concerns our counselors are trained and experienced to help facilitate healing in a student’s life.  Depression  Anxiety  Problems forming relationships  Lack of satisfaction with current relationships  Loss of relationships (through death, divorce, break-ups, moving away)  Family problems  Anger  Loneliness  Homesickness  Being different from others due to ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, or race  Experiencing violence n ow or in the past  Problems related to alcohol or other substance use  Rape/sexual assault  Problems with eating or body image  Adjusting to college  Adjusting to a new culture  Wanting to learn to make healthier life choices  Having a general sense of "not feeling like myself"  Having a general feeling of unhappiness or unease  Confusion about identity, who or what you want to be  And many others

  Counselors are available to help students in the career/major decision making process by helping to clarify their  Values  Interests  Abilities  Skills  Research potential major and careers.  Various forms (paper and internet-based) of career assessment tools are available.  BCTC also offers the course, SDC 105: Career Planning Seminar.   The Study Skills Services are offered to assist students with study strategies on an individual basis, in small group workshops, or in classroom settings. Assistance can be provided in the following areas:  Study Skills Assessment  Test Preparation  Test Anxiety  Note-Taking  Textbook Reading Skills  Memory Techniques  Time Management/Procrastination  Concentration  Learning Style Preference  Goal Setting/Motivation Study Skills

  Your professors/faculty help prepare you by teaching the knowledge you need to be successful; Our job is to help prepare you for finding a career once you graduate.  There are ways we help such as job search, résumé writing, the application process, reference lists, cover letters, and interview skills.   We sit down with you and determine your needs.  When we create a résumé, we map out everything for you and let you create it from there.  Job searches are done in your academic field by looking at job sites, the occupational handbook, and other resources. Career Services

  In addition, a Career Fair in the Fall and the Spring are conducted to assist you with employment.  Fall Fair - Leestown campus  Spring Fair - Cooper campus  There are businesses reaching out to graduates as well as internships and co-ops available.  Free and open to the public Career Fair

  Bluegrass Community & Technical College is offering a platform for employers in the community and our students to network together. BCTC Career Link

 What is Career Link?  Career Link is a website used by BCTC students so they may conduct job searches.  Career Link is a website similar to:   

  The BCTC Career link is a program managed by the Career Development & Counseling Center.  It is a system designed to make it easier for BCTC students to search for open positions from companies located in Central Kentucky and throughout the United States.  It helps companies reach out to our students for open positions and our students to reach out to companies seeking them. It is only visible for BCTC students and alumni. BCTC Career Link

 Employer’s Responsibilities  The responsibility of the employers on Career Link is simple. They are to post open positions within their company.  Employers also can search student résumés to locate individuals they wish to contact for an interview.  Employers send a copy of the position they have open to a Career Development Specialist.  The Specialist will review the job to make sure it meets BCTC’s criteria and qualifications.  Then the position will be posted to the Career Link site.

  The employer will sign on to the following website:  The employer will enter in the following information  Click on the employer option  Click register to list your company in the database  Fill in all information that is required about your company Employer

 Student’s Responsibilities  As a student, you will register with Career Link and be eligible to search open positions.  You will submit your résumé to the Career Link site for approval.  Your résumé will be a reflection of you so we will make sure it’s flawless.  You will be able to see what positions have been posted by which companies.  You will receive instructions on how to apply for the position.  You will be able to have contact with an employer and begin networking with the employer to setup a possible interview.

  Students will sign on to the following website  You will be then prompted to answer questions and supply the necessary information to create your account.  Once you have your account created, you will be eligible to start searching the sites for career opportunities. Student

  In this section, you will be asked to answer questions about the following:  Student ID number, a photo of yourself, your full name, then your first, middle and last name.  You will be asked for your student and personal addresses, as well as your school and permanent home addresses.  You will be asked for your phone number and employment status.   In this section you will be asked to answer questions about the following:  Your projected graduation date, your year in school, and your major.  Your GPA, your degree level, applicant type, program type, degree level if you are a alumnus, work authorization and geographic preferences.  Items that have an * by them are required.   Our responsibility is to see the companies we allow to post on our job board are posting:  Real positions  Positions which are reputable  The company is aligned with BCTC goals.  The company has the student’s best interest with their postings. Career Center’s Responsibilities

  By creating the Career link system, we feel BCTC is making great strides in helping students be more successful in their job search after graduation.  Due to Career Link, graduates can be more prepared with building a solid reputation and companies will be more inclined to look at our students first.
