Nile River The Nile River is the longest river on earth. The Nile River flows from south to north. It goes to reach the delta. The Egyptians used the Nile as a source to grow barley, wheat, flax, and other crops. They were also happy when the river flooded because when the water level dropped the land would have beautiful rich soil. The desert that runs a long the Nile is called the Red Lands. The Nile River is also known as the “Father of Life” and “Mother of all Men.” All kinds of animals lived near the Nile. There were ducks, geese, water and nesting birds, crocodiles, and hippos. Giza The pharaoh of Giza was Khufu. Khufu was also known as Cheaps which is Greek. Giza existed during the Old Kingdom. Giza was north of Memphis and west of the Nile River. The pharaoh Khufu was an important person because he had designed the biggest building called the Great Pyramid. It took thousands of people to build the Great Pyramid. The Great Pyramid took twenty years to complete the building. They used over 2,300,000 separate blocks to build this exquisite pyramid. Today this pyramid costs about $7.5 million to build. Saqqara Saqqara existed during the Old Kingdom. Saqqara was west of the Nile River, north of Fayyum and south of Memphis. The pharaoh was Djoser. He had lead Egypt for some time. He loved bulls. Djoser also buried bulls. The pharaoh Djoser was a powerful man. He had also made the Step Pyramid. Djoser had made the first stone building (Step Pyramid). Egyptians believed that there was a god named Khnum controlled the flow of the Nile River. Djoser made a pyramid in honor of Khnum! Reference: Map Gift Shop

Dei el-Bahri Deir el- Bahri existed during the New Kingdom. Deir el- Bahri was west of the Nile River and north of the Valley of Kings. The pharaoh was a lady her name was Queen Hatshepsut. The Queen had gotten married. Her and her husband had one child. Once her husband died she got remarried. It was to her husband’s brother. The child became Hatshepsut’s son and nephew. After some time the Queen had died. The body mysteriously disappeared. Many people think the child had poisoned his mother. He finally ruled part of Egypt. He was only ten.
