Ancient Egyptians ate bread, beans, vegetables, fruit, meat, fish, seeds, and poultry. They drank tea, milk, and juices. They also had butcher shops, and ate lamb and beef.

Beer was made from crumbled barley bread and barley with water so it was lumpy. It was strained before it was drunk. Even so it was still lumpy so it had to be drunk through a wooden straw with a filter. Better off Egyptians drank wine.

For dessert, the Egyptians liked to eat dates. They were put into people's graves for them to eat in the next world, and were preserved in the dry climate for three thousand years until archaeologists dug them up again. Archaeologists have also found seeds which show that the Egyptians grew watermelons, and other kinds of melon.

The Egyptian climate with its hot summers and mild winters favored light clothing made from plant fibers and imported linen. Workers were loincloths made of animal hide and linen. They also wore simple tunic dresses. Loincloth: a piece of material fastened around the waist worn by men. Most slaves worked naked.

The clothes were generally made of linen and kept simple: a short loincloth resembling a kilt for men, a dress with straps for the women. Different classes of people wore different clothing, with rich people wearing more expensive and more fashionable clothing. This did not change throughout Egypt's history.

The Ancient Egyptians went barefoot most of the time but wore sandals for special occasions or if their feet were likely to get hurt. The sandals worn by the poor were made of woven papyrus or palm, while those worn by the rich were made of leather.

The Ancient Egyptians wore jewelry to show their wealth and also because they believed it made them more attractive to the gods. They wore rings, earrings, bracelets, decorated buttons, necklaces, neck collars and pendants. Only the very rich could afford jewelry made of gold and precious stones. Ordinary people made jewelry from colored pottery beads.

We hope you enjoyed it!
