2015 Program Overview STAAR A  Students formerly assessed with STAAR Modified are now required to be assessed with the general STAAR assessment.  In addition to accommodations currently available, TEA is developing an online version of STAAR, to be known as STAAR A.  STAAR A will be designed to assist students formerly assessed with STAAR Modified in the transition to the general STAAR program. 2015 Program Overview STAAR Alternate  STAAR Alternate is the assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities that is mandated by No Child Left Behind legislation.  House Bill 5 of the 83 rd Legislative Session called for a redesign of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Alternate assessment. “An assessment instrument under this subsection may not require a teacher to prepare tasks or materials for a student who will be administered such an assessment instrument.” TEA Student Assessment Division June 2014

2015 Program Overview STAAR Alternate TEA Student Assessment Division June TETN updates in the fall -District testing coordinators will receive STAAR Alternate training during annual state assessment training -Test administration window to be determined (most likely in February/March)

2015 Program Overview STAAR  Student Success Initiative (SSI) -Students in grades 5 and 8 must pass STAAR mathematics and reading to be promoted to the next grade. -Typically, students will be provided with three testing opportunities. -In 2015, mathematics will only be tested in April due to the need to set standards on the tests that have been rebuilt to match the new curriculum. Calendar Scheduling of Tests  STAAR - Charter districts should adhere to the testing dates as listed on the annual Student Assessment Calendar. - Specific testing dates are assigned for the administration of all STAAR assessments in grades 3 ‒ 8 and for STAAR English I and II. - STAAR Algebra I, biology, and U.S. history may be tested any day within the assigned testing window.
