Snapshot: Suicide Statistics Compared to state averages, Columbia County has higher rates for suicide and attempts For adults, higher suicide rates for men than women For middle and high school students: higher rates of depression, ideation, and attempts for females and minorities 7-15% of Wisconsin suicides are identified as veteran (lower than the national rate of 21%) Suicide is the second most common cause of death after car accidents for Wisconsin youth
