HARRY LOWE Why Videos?

Andrew Goodwin’s Theoretical Framework Andrew Goodwin identifies 5 key aspects of music videos Synaesthesia - Seeing the sound Narrative and Performance The Star Image. Relation of Visuals to Song. Technical Aspects of Music Video

Professionals views on music videos In an interview, Chris Parr says that music video are very important because the music video helps the audience remember who the artist actually is. And without music videos, the music industry would not be as big as it is today.

What is the purpose of the music video? The main purpose of the music video is to promote the artists and increase their income. To tell the story of the song.

Music video popularity Artists can boost there popularity by creating a music video that everyone will enjoy. This will make everyone remember them. And example of this is the gangnam style video

Gangnam Style Psy is know one of the moment known artists across the world thanks to his music video to gangnam style. In July 2012 Gangnam style was released onto YouTube without expecting what lengths the music video would go to. The song became increasingly popular and in December 2012 it was the first video on YouTube to reach 1 billion views. As of May 2014 the video has been viewed over 2 billion times.

Music channels Music videos used to be aired on the chart show once a week or so. These days there are multiple music channels such as mtv dedicated to showing just music videos all day everyday. The music channels are in agreement with the artist so the artist will increase their income.

On 1 st August 1981 MTV started, the first song they aired was Buggles – Video killed the radio star. The original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by television personalities known as video jockeys, or VJs. In its early years, MTV's main target demographic were young adults, but today, MTV's programming is primarily targeted at teenagers in addition to young adults. MTV now has multiple channels such as: MTV, MTV2, MTV Tres, MTVU, MTV Jams and MTV Hits.

Synergy Synergy- when two types of media work together. An example of this is could be a music artist having a music video with scenes fro a movie in it. This would help promote both the film and the music video as a wide number of people will see it.

Synergy Another form of synergy is having a music track to the soundtrack of a movie. An example of this would be Adele’s Skyfall is in combination with the James Bond film Skyfall. This boosted Adele’s popularity as James Bond is a very famous film franchise.

Product Placement Product placement according to the European Union is "any form of audio-visual commercial communication consisting of the inclusion of or reference to a product, a service or the trade mark thereof so that it is featured within a program". In short, product placement is when someone shows reference to a product with either an advert or music video the company that the person has shown will pay them a certain amount of money as they have shown their product which could increase sales for the company.
