Grace Boyd Coach Marroquin 3 rd period IMMIGRATION TO TEXAS

  Many immigrants moved to Texas. Some of the immigrants were Mexican, German, and Irish. All three of these groups of people have made a impact or influenced the settlement of Texas. INTRODUCTION

  A person who comes to a new country in search of land  To move from one place to another. IMIGRATION and MIGRATION

  The immigrants came from Mexico and Puerto Rico  Adelsvereine founded New Braunfels and Fredericksburg  Most of the immigrants became farmers or ranchers. Their work wasn’t easy. It was hard work.  Most of the population in Texas was made up of immigrants. MEXICAN TEXANS

  Germans made up most the population of immigrants in the 1860s.  Came seeking political and religious freedom, while other arrived in search of economic opportunities.  Many of the Germans came to Texas as part of an organized effort adelsvereine, or the society for the protection of German immigrants.  John O. Meuseback founded Fredericksonberg. GERMAN TEXANS

  President Lamar forced the Native Texans on to a reserve because the growing population of Texas was spreading onto their hunting ground. This loss of land increased tensions with the Native Texans.  Later they decided to set aside land for the Native Texans. Some Native Texans who had roamed freely refused to live within the borders of the reservation. Often these boundaries were crossed by settlers. Within a few years, even those small reservations were gone, and most native Texans were forced to move out of state. NATIVE TEXANS

  The Irish and English were the second and third largest  Groups of Europeans to settle in Texas. Irish impresarios had received grants under Spain and were active in the Texas Revolution. In 1845 many Irish fled to Texas because of a disease that attacked their main food source, the potato.  French immigrants also came to Texas. OTHER IMIGRANTS FROM UROPE

  Each group of immigrants had their own reason to come to Texas. German came for religious and political freedom, Mexicans came for work, and the Irish came to get away from a disease. Even though all of the different immigrants came to Texas for different reasons they all helped settle Texas and helped it to become what it is today. TRENDS

  I used my text book witch is a secondary source because the people who wrote it didn’t experience these events them self. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY
