Uniform Admissions Policy House Bill 3826 All students applying to public Texas Universities must : Meet Recommended/Distinguished Plan OR Meet one of the following requirements: TPHSC Form 1 or 2 Provide proof that high school curriculum was equivalent in content and rigor to the recommended/ distinguished plan ACT Benchmark Readiness English 18 Reading 21 Math 22 Science 24 SAT 1500 Composite Math Reading Writing

New Legislation Effective spring 2012, all new entering students and those returning after NOT being enrolled for fall 2011 (below the age of 30) must provide evidence of having received a vaccination for bacterial meningitis before they will be allowed to register. This requirement is in compliance with SB1107, passed in the 82 nd Texas legislature.

Concurrent Enrollment Changes Concurrent Enrollment has merged with Admissions and New Student Services Located on the main campus in the UTPA Visitors Center CE contracts with partnering schools UTPA Administrators visiting with ISD to continue partnerships Fee Increase to $60 per credit hour beginning September 1 st. 3 hour class = $180

Concurrent Enrollment Admissions Criteria Rank in the top 10% of their graduating class Have a GPA of 90 or better (English, math, natural sciences, social studies, foreign languages) Meet the minimum test score requirement ACT or SAT required To QUALIFY for the UTPA Concurrent Enrollment program students must meet at least ONE of the following criteria:

Step One: Application Apply to UTPA for Freshmen admission to UTPA. CE Question Answer Yes to: Are you currently a high school student (junior or senior) planning to take college courses prior to high school graduation?

Step 2: Submit Documentation CE Authorization Form New Authorization Form Students must get this form from their Counselor or UTPA. High School Transcript GPA: indicated on a 100 pt. scale. Rank : indicated on the transcript Test Scores ACT = 22 composite SAT = 1030 Verbal/Math and Critical Reading THEA or equivalent exam if they do not meet exemption standards.

Step 3: Sign Up for Classes Advisement/Registration Session Step 1: Log on Step 2: Click on Admissions Tab Step 3: Click on Sign up for Orientation Step 4: Answer the questions Step 5: Submit your reservation Username/Password New students: u u Returning Students: c ontact the Help Desk (956) and press 5 for IT support. New CE students are required to attend a ½ day Advisement/Registration session.

Why is Residency important?  Residency Status affects a student’s Tuition Costs  Residency Audits of the University  Financial Aid  Keep in mind Residency is only for Tuition Purposes and has nothing to do with immigration or citizenship status  Texas Residency does not offer immigration protection  We do not report undocumented students  We are not responsible or liable for any immigration issues the students encounter

Types of Residency 1. Senate Bill Students who have Started the Process to become Permanent Residents (Notice of Action) 3. Permanent Residents 4. U.S. citizens who can provide proof of one year Texas Residency

Senate Bill 1528 A bill passed for undocumented students giving them the opportunity to study at any university in the state of Texas and pay tuition as a Texas Resident. This was created to encourage the student to apply for citizenship. Eventually, as these educated individuals enter our workforce it will help our community.

Senate Bill 1528 Graduated from high school or completed a GED in Texas. Lived in TX for 36 months leading up to high school graduation or completion of GED. DO NOT need to live with parents Lived in TX for the previous 12 months prior to enrollment (can overlap the 36 month period) STUDENTS WILL QUALIFY IF THEY:

Senate Bill 1528 CE/ECHS students DO NOT qualify for this program – need HS Diploma/GED If they are undocumented, make them aware of the requirements for when they do begin apply to colleges and universities

Permanent Residents REQUIREMENTS Core Residency Questionnaire Copy of Permanent Resident Card If “Resident Since” date is less than ONE year, student must provide proof of one year Texas Residency.
