General Info about Tice’s Photos Known for documenting through the use of photos Claims that his photos are spontaneous. Believes that photographing is about exploring. All photos are printed in black and white Photos are about place – Urban and Suburban landscapes – About capturing fading trends

Subject Matter Suburban and urban landscapes – Focuses on buildings, nature, and cars – Tice’s photos focus on the place surrounding the objects

How were the photos made? All of Tice’s photos are a result of spontaneous exploration Tice photographs by way of random trips or adventures Tice does not photograph at specific times or have specific intentions

Tools of Photography Tice printed photos using large camera formats

Elements of Art Tice used lines to draw focus to the main objects of his landscapes In many cases buildings, roads, and roads lines were used Color does not play a major role in Tice’s photos because they are shot in black and white – Darks and lights in his photos add emphasis to the focus of his subjects

Elements of Art Texture is visible in Tice’s photos in the surrounding buildings and roadways Texture is present in his nature landscapes, specifically on trees Many shapes are visible in the urban landscapes because many objects are present in one photo

Elements of Art Form is present in many of Tice’s photos Objects in the photo evoke a strong presence and three dimensional feel The use of lights and darks strengthen the presence of these objects

Principles of Design Tice’s photos lack symmetry and balance as a whole Emphasis on the objects in Tice’s photos are mainly a result of natural and artificial light Variety can be seen in his photos in the background – Backgrounds contain many different sizes and shapes

Principles of Design The amount of movement in Tice’s photos varies Repetition and pattern are often shown in the buildings and objects in the background and foreground in Tice’s photos Different uses of light and different subjects show uniqueness in Tice’s photos

Lighting Tice varies the time of his photos. He often utilizes the darkness of night Artificial light is used in night time photos to bring emphasis to the subjects Natural light is present in Tice’s portraits and landscapes. In these cases the main sources of light comes from above the subject
