Government drivers Increased productivity and efficiency in construction Better regulation through: –simplification –reducing bureaucracy –focus on risk –Proportionate activity –Consistent approach

Challenges for the industry Improving leadership in procurement and standard setting Managing and co-ordinating activity effectively Understanding and delivering a competent workforce Preventing occupational disease Tackling bureaucracy

Progress - BUT Still a 2 tier industry Design community need to meet the challenge of the PD and designer role Industry on industry bureaucracy needs to reduce Still too much non-value adding activity Is what industry standard setters demand always sensible and proportionate?
